Mormon Prophet Harold B. Lee said the following:
“The Indians on the American continent are descendants of the tribes of Ephraim, Judah, and Manasseh, we are told by the Book of Mormon. (Omni 15-19; 1 Nephi 5:14-16.) Their dark skin was a curse put upon them because of their transgression, which in a day to come in their descendants will be lifted and they will become white and delightsome as they accept the Gospel and turn to the Lord (Harold B. Lee, Decisions for Successful Living, p. 167.)
This next one is quite saddening, disturbing, and shocking; it is an official statement from LDS President and Prophet Spencer W. Kimball. Present-day Native Americans are known as descendants of the Lamanites, who were supposedly the evil group of people in the Americas in the Book of Mormon. Listen to this LDS prophet speak:
“The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. In this picture of the twenty Lamanite missionaries, fifteen of the twenty were as light as the Anglos; five were darker but equally delightsome. The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation. At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl-sixteen-sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parents-on the same reservation, in the same hogan, subject to the same sun and wind and weather. There was the doctor in a Utah city who for two years had had an Indian boy in his home who stated that he was some shades lighter than the younger brother just coming into the program from the reservation. These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and delightsomeness. One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated.” (Spencer W. Kimball, Conference Reports, October 1960, p. 34.)
Did you read that? Can you actually believe that? This is coming from a General Conference Report from a Mormon prophet! This is unbelievably racist! Thinking that Native Americans who become Mormons have their skin color naturally change to white because they accept the LDS gospel? I don’t think so!
It amazes me that the LDS Church has so many members in Latin America, as the “cursed” Lamanites dwell there as well. Listen to this:
“Who are the Lamanites? The term Lamanite includes all Indians and Indian mixtures, such as the Polynesians, the Guatemalans, the Peruvians, as well as the Sioux, the Apache, the Mohawk, the Navajo, and others. It is a large group of great people.” (Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 596. See also “Of Royal Blood,” Ensign, July 1971, p. 7)
According to Mormonism, the Latin American and Native American populations today are cursed with dark skin, and that skin may become white if they convert to Mormonism. Why then, with millions of members, hasn’t the Latin American LDS population changed skin color if they are to become “white and delightsome” upon accepting the LDS gospel?
Something isn’t right here…
The God of the Bible would never curse anyone with a different skin color. God created all skin colors equal.
